I have been licensed in the state of Texas since Summer 2014. My next step was to take the necessary steps for my Texas instructor’s license and personally felt some of the requirements were unnecessary for my specific field. I guess this braider felt the same way. She took her gripes to court in a lawsuit against TDLR and the judge sided in her favor stating the laws/rules were superfluous to her profession.

As I do not think you need a cosmetology license to braid, I do believe all braiders should be certified in healthy hair care techniques to avoid the damage that braids can cause if installed incorrectly. Again, at best their should be a braid license/certificate if you are going to be a professional braider.
